About The Position

This is a co-op position for Spring/Summer 2027, focused on software engineering within the aerospace and defense industry. The role involves contributing to the development of embedded software in C++ for the A661 Graphics Server, specifically for the Boeing Platforms department. The engineer will be involved in requirements capture, design, development, testing, and verification of software to Design Assurance Level A fidelity per DO-178C standard. This is a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session running from January to August, requiring students to take a semester off from coursework. The position offers a working mentorship opportunity to understand and apply Collins Aerospace processes related to software development and verification. The work environment includes using desktop computers in an office and target hardware in an engineering lab to meet schedule and cost constraints.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Must have a minimum of 29 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated interest in embedded software solutions and board-level device drivers.
  • Programming experience in C, C++ and/or Python.
  • Comfortable with real-time operating system and object-oriented programming concepts.
  • Experience with all phases of the software development life cycle.
  • Energetic and proactive self-starter with strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Help with requirements capture and design.
  • Develop embedded software in C++ for the A661 Graphics Server.
  • Test and verify the developed software to Design Assurance Level A fidelity per DO-178C standard.
  • Contribute to Software Requirements, Design, Code, and Verification of the cockpit display system’s graphics server.
  • Understand Collins Aerospace processes related to software development and verification and apply them to current projects.
  • Work with desktop computer in an office environment and with target hardware in an engineering lab.
  • Identify the root cause of moderate to complex software issues using appropriate debug and analysis tools.
  • Clearly summarize encountered technical software issues to project leadership in a timely fashion.
  • Work together in a collaborative team that is part of multi large systems.
  • Engage in full life cycle development of DO-178 DAL A certified software.
