Software Engineering Co-op (Summer/Fall 2027)
About The Position
RTX is hiring a full-time, onsite Software Engineering Co-op in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for a session running May/June through December 2027, including the fall semester. Students are expected to take a semester away from coursework to participate fully in the working mentorship opportunity. The co-op will contribute to flight-critical embedded software for next-generation aviation and mission solutions, working with embedded Linux, C/C++, networking protocols, device drivers, hardware interfaces, and simulation environments. The work focuses on building systems that meet rigorous safety, reliability, and airworthiness standards and participating in the software lifecycle from requirements and architecture through development, verification, and certification.
Requirements
- Must be pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field and remain actively enrolled through completion of the co-op session.
- Must have at least 60 credit hours by the start of the co-op session.
- Strong development experience with C and C++.
- U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under the program or contract.

- Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain flight-critical embedded software for next-generation aviation and mission solutions.
- Work hands-on with embedded Linux, C/C++, networking protocols, device drivers, hardware interfaces, and simulation environments.
- Build high-integrity systems that meet rigorous safety, reliability, and airworthiness standards.
- Define requirements, implement features, develop test procedures, perform verification activities, and produce certification-ready artifacts.
