About The Position

Sweetwater is seeking a Software Engineer to join its IT team and build and support software solutions for internal and external customers. The role focuses on completing well-defined development tasks under the guidance of more experienced engineers, while learning the team's systems, tools, infrastructure, and the retail functions its software supports. The team uses an AI-augmented development environment, with coding assistants such as Claude and Cursor in the daily workflow. Engineers are expected to verify AI-generated code, understand it before committing, recognize its limitations, and ask for help when needed. The role also includes participating in code reviews and a guided production support rotation. Relocation to Sweetwater's campus in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; a completed coding bootcamp; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong fundamentals in at least one modern programming language, such as Golang, Python, C#, PHP, or JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot, and willingness to build proficiency quickly.
  • Ability to read, understand, and verify AI-generated code before committing, including recognizing hallucinated APIs, subtle logic errors, and security issues.
  • Willingness to ask questions, receive feedback constructively, and learn from more experienced engineers.
  • Basic understanding of the retail business domain and genuine interest in learning who uses the systems and why.
  • Solid communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • 1–3 years of professional software development experience.
  • Relocation to Sweetwater's campus in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is required.

Responsibilities

  • Write clean, correct code for well-defined tasks while following team patterns and best practices under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Use AI coding assistants responsibly by verifying their output, recognizing common failure modes, and committing only code the engineer can explain and understand.
  • Participate actively in code reviews and incorporate feedback on personal work, including AI-originated code.
  • Learn the team's systems, tools, and infrastructure, as well as the retail business functions supported by the team.
  • Participate in the team's production support rotation with guidance; triage and resolve straightforward defects using logs, dashboards, and runbooks, and escalate issues promptly when they exceed the engineer's scope.
  • Ask thoughtful questions, identify and close knowledge gaps, and pursue continuous learning and professional development.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver features and fixes on schedule while maintaining code quality standards.
