About The Position

Enlighten is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and implement complex software capabilities for computer-based systems. The engineer will work closely with other engineers to create software solutions for clients, using modern tools and technologies and keeping current with developments in the field. This role is part of a dynamic, collaborative team delivering high-quality software in a fast-paced small-business environment. The position combines hands-on engineering execution with team guidance, mentorship, and leadership.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• A current U.S. Government security clearance is desired but not required; candidates with a current Secret or TS clearance may also be considered.
• Nine years of Software Engineering experience, modern Java frameworks and libraries (such as Spring and Guava), and a bachelor's degree in a related field; alternatively, seven years of relevant experience with a master's degree in a related field; or a high school diploma or equivalent and 13 years of relevant experience.
• Strong Java software development experience.
• Experience building and maintaining Kubernetes deployments using tools such as Helm and Flux.
• Experience designing enterprise APIs.
• Experience with RESTful web services.
• Experience with microservices architecture.
• Experience with the agile software lifecycle.
• Ability to learn quickly and work independently as well as in a team.
• Experience with the Linux operating system.
• Experience with configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Demonstrated experience serving as a tech lead, mentor, or manager for engineering teams.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment, averaging 1–2 days per week at the Columbia, Maryland office, with flexibility to adapt to schedule changes.
• Inquisitive nature, responsiveness, excellent testing skills, strong troubleshooting skills, and ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with cloud-based technologies such as AWS or Azure.
• Experience designing and writing custom Kubernetes tooling, such as operators and custom CRDs.
• Experience with programming languages such as Go and Python.
• Experience writing automation in CI/CD tooling such as GitLab CI pipelines.
• Experience with distributed databases, NoSQL databases, or full-text search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, and Solr.
• Scripting experience.
• Prior experience or familiarity with Enlighten's Big Data Platform.
• Understanding of agile software development methodologies and standard software development tool suites such as JIRA, Confluence, and GitHub Enterprise.
