About The Position

Stefanini Group is hiring a Software Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan, to support the Client’s Vehicle Integration System (VIS). The role contributes to the architecture, development, and evolution of a platform that helps vehicle upfitters, fleet customers, and internal engineering teams configure and integrate aftermarket equipment with production vehicles. The work spans cloud software, embedded vehicle systems, AI-powered engineering tools, and vehicle communications networks. It involves integrating vehicle signals, switches, telematics data, proprietary modules, and future software-defined vehicle capabilities. The engineer designs, develops, and maintains scalable Google Cloud-native and desktop applications for VIS workflows, and builds microservices, APIs, reusable frameworks, and services using technologies including Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, React, and PostgreSQL. The role also collaborates with vehicle feature engineers, module owners, telematics teams, and suppliers to integrate vehicle capabilities and assess how vehicle architecture changes affect VIS models and workflows. The position analyzes vehicle feature requirements and technical documentation, translates vehicle capabilities into configuration logic and software implementations, and develops architecture designs for VIS components and connected systems. It also includes designing AI-assisted configuration, validation, and diagnostic capabilities; assessing technical approaches and deployment strategies; and promoting automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, code quality, and DevSecOps practices. The role requires automotive systems knowledge, including in-vehicle software and communications networks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 7 years of software engineering experience with enterprise-scale systems.
  • 5–7 years of Java and Spring Boot experience.
  • 3–5 years of Node.js, TypeScript, and React experience.
  • 3–5 years of PostgreSQL experience.
  • 3–5 years of embedded software experience, including in-vehicle software development and testing; automotive experience is required.
  • Knowledge of vehicle systems such as CAN signals, telematics, gateways, and TCUs.
  • 3–5 years of Google Cloud Platform experience.
  • 5–7 years of REST and GraphQL API experience.
  • Experience working with automotive communication networks.
  • Experience with cloud-native development on Azure, Google Cloud, or AWS.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code.
  • Hands-on experience with Jenkins, Tekton, Terraform, GitHub, SonarQube, JFrog, FOSSA, and 42Crunch.
  • Experience with CAN, CAN FD, J1939, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet.
  • Understanding of vehicle electrical architectures and body control systems.
  • Experience analyzing vehicle signals, message definitions, and communication protocols.
  • Ability to interpret vehicle feature requirements and implement corresponding software solutions.
  • Experience working with supplier-delivered software, firmware, or hardware modules.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with upfitter integration, fleet solutions, commercial vehicles, body builder interfaces, or aftermarket equipment integration.
  • Familiarity with Client vehicle electrical architecture concepts.
  • Understanding of telematics systems, gateways, TCUs, and connected vehicle platforms.
  • Knowledge of J1939 PGNs, SPNs, and heavy-duty vehicle communication standards.
  • Exposure to service-oriented vehicle architecture, OBD2, DTC, vehicle data platforms, and cloud-connected vehicle ecosystems.
  • Experience with analytics and visualization platforms.
  • Experience working with vehicle diagnostic tools and data acquisition systems.
  • Familiarity with AUTOSAR architecture concepts.
  • Understanding of automotive cybersecurity standards and functional safety concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Google Cloud-native and desktop applications supporting VIS configuration workflows.
  • Architect and implement microservices and APIs using Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, React, and PostgreSQL.
  • Develop reusable frameworks and services for vehicle feature configuration, signal management, and integration workflows.
  • Ensure VIS components meet performance, scalability, reliability, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Collaborate with vehicle feature engineers, module owners, telematics teams, and external suppliers to integrate vehicle capabilities into VIS.
  • Support integration of CAN and CAN-FD signals, J1939 communications, LIN-based devices, Vehicle Ethernet technologies, hard and soft switches, and telematics and connected vehicle services.
  • Analyze vehicle architecture changes and determine their impacts on VIS configuration models and workflows.
  • Participate in system-level design reviews and technical feasibility assessments.
  • Design and integrate AI-powered capabilities for configuration authoring, validation, and diagnostics, and evaluate emerging AI technologies relevant to vehicle integration and software-defined vehicles.
  • Analyze vehicle feature requirements, PRDs, Gherkin scenarios, signal definitions, network specifications, and module interface documentation, translating vehicle capabilities into VIS configuration logic and software implementations.
  • Develop and maintain high-level and detailed architecture designs for VIS components, APIs, vehicle integration services, AI-enabled capabilities, and cloud-connected systems.
  • Promote automated testing, test-driven development, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, code quality metrics, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Evaluate technical requirements and select architecture patterns, technology stacks, integration approaches, deployment strategies, and data models for current and future VIS capabilities.
