Software Engineer

Siemens•Wilsonville, OR
•$90,000 - $162,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Siemens EDA is seeking a highly motivated software engineer to join the Calibre engineering team in the Siemens EDA IC segment. The role involves designing, developing, and supporting Calibre Parasitic Extraction software, including xACT and xACT3D. These products identify electrical side effects from devices and interconnect wires in integrated circuit designs and produce output for post-layout analysis and simulation. Development spans computation engines, application software, APIs, and utilities, with a focus on implementing numerical solutions to electrostatics-related partial differential equations (PDEs) in C++ and related languages. The engineer will collaborate with experienced software engineers to deliver production-quality components and algorithms and support existing parasitic extraction products.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Scientific Computing, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Practical software development experience in scientific computing, simulation, or machine learning projects involving numerical linear algebra and data structures and algorithms for high-volume data analysis, simulation, optimization, and computing.
  • Excellent C++ programming and software engineering skills.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and interest in learning, exploring, and applying technologies in software engineering, computer science, and numerical mathematics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivation, self-discipline, and ability to set and consistently pursue personal goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Good mathematical and numerical skills and high-performance computing experience.
  • Experience with AI/ML-based methods for solving PDEs.
  • Deep knowledge of semiconductor processes, advanced technology nodes, and device modeling, and motivation to stay current with advanced-node developments from leading semiconductor foundries.
  • Experience with large software development projects, including code reviews, version management, unit tests, and static or dynamic code checkers.
  • Experience with multithreaded, distributed, and high-performance computing.
  • Experience with PDE solvers and electromagnetics.
  • IC CAD experience, including DRC, LVS, extraction, or simulation.
  • Experience with UNIX and/or Linux platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Support the software development team with advanced numerical methods, C++ algorithms, meshing, linear solvers, and automation and optimization tools.
  • Introduce new technology or knowledge into at least one product area and to the team.
  • Work independently, without supervision, on highly complex projects using technical expertise and independent judgment.
  • Design, develop, and support Calibre Parasitic Extraction software, including xACT and xACT3D.
  • Develop software components including computation engines, application software, APIs, and utilities, with emphasis on numerical solutions to PDEs arising from electrostatics.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to produce high-quality new components and algorithms and support existing parasitic extraction products.

Benefits

  • Health and wellness benefits.
  • Paid sick leave.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • PTO for non-exempt employees or non-accrued flexible vacation for exempt employees.
  • Target incentive of 3–5% of base salary.
