About The Position

The Software Engineer will help build and scale a web-based telemetry and diagnostics platform for next-generation motor controllers and electromechanical systems. The role works closely with firmware, hardware, and systems engineers to connect embedded systems with intuitive real-time interfaces. It includes developing a web application, visualizing real-time and historical motor telemetry, and building backend APIs and data pipelines for diagnostics and remote logging. The engineer will own features from concept and design through deployment and iteration, collaborate with designers on UI/UX, and contribute to system architecture, documentation, and requirements. The role also partners with mechanical and hardware engineers on system-level qualification and development tests, test fixtures, automated test infrastructure, and data analysis pipelines for hardware validation. This is not a pure software role: it involves working across firmware and hardware, using oscilloscopes, reading schematics, and debugging board-level issues alongside software development. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents (Green Card holders) to meet customer and regulatory requirements. The company is located in Hawthorne, California, and is open to relocating candidates.

  • At least 2 years of software engineering experience with frontend and backend work, ideally in a product-focused environment.
  • Strong experience with TypeScript and React.
  • Experience with Electron desktop application development.
  • Experience with Firebase Authentication, Firestore, and Cloud Functions.
  • Solid backend experience using Node.js or Python.
  • Experience designing and building REST or WebSocket APIs.
  • Experience working with real-time data, time-series databases, or WebSocket streams.
  • Familiarity with Figma and experience collaborating closely with designers.
  • Strong UX instincts and enthusiasm for building clean, usable interfaces.
  • A bias for action and willingness to take ownership.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder).

Nice To Haves

  • Python experience for test scripting and data analysis.
  • Experience building UI dashboards for hardware systems.
  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, or Vite.
  • Familiarity with WebHID/WebUSB or binary protocol communication with hardware devices.
  • A curious, resourceful mindset and an interest in continually improving tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and scale the web application.
  • Create intuitive visualizations for real-time and historical motor telemetry.
  • Design and maintain scalable backend APIs and data pipelines for diagnostics and remote logging.
  • Work with embedded engineers to define protocols and telemetry schemas.
  • Ensure tools are robust, responsive, and usable across devices and platforms.
  • Own features end-to-end, from concept and design through deployment and ongoing iteration.
  • Collaborate with designers to implement thoughtful UI/UX.
  • Contribute to system architecture, documentation, requirements, and the software development process.
  • Partner with mechanical and hardware engineers to design and implement system-level qualification and development tests.
  • Architect and deploy test fixtures and automated test infrastructure.
  • Develop data analysis pipelines and pass/fail criteria for hardware validation.
  • Use oscilloscopes, read schematics, and debug board-level issues alongside writing software.
