As a Software Engineer within PNC's Retail Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA, Strongsville, OH, Dallas, TX, Birmingham, AL, Phoenix, AZ, or Denver, CO. As a Software Engineer you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high‑quality software solutions. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams. Develops, tests and implements software solutions. Designs software solutions to address business needs. Writes code, tests and deploys software. Prepares technical and procedural documentation required for software. Maintains and debugs software.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, Go)
  • Experience building and consuming APIs and working with distributed systems
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles
  • Experience working in Agile or Scrum development environments
  • Strong debugging, problem‑solving, and analytical skills
  • Customer Focused - Knowledgeable of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and able to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions.
  • Managing Risk - Assessing and effectively managing all of the risks associated with their business objectives and activities to ensure they adhere to and support PNC's Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
  • University / college degree, with 2+ years of relevant professional experience. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job specific certification(s), and experience (including military service) may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain reliable, scalable, and secure software applications
  • Take ownership of complex features or systems from design through deployment and support
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and technical strategy
  • Write clean, efficient, and well‑documented code following best practices
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, QA, and other stakeholders to deliver solutions aligned with business needs
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues
  • Continuously evaluate and improve system performance, reliability, and maintainability
