About The Position

PayPal, Inc. seeks a Software Engineer in San Jose, CA. This role involves driving the design and development of new software application features and product solutions from conception to post-implementation, ensuring a seamless project lifecycle. The engineer will gather and assess product and customer requirements to define precise software specifications for new developments. Collaboration with development team members, Scrum Development Analytics, and Information Security is key to upholding quality standards and meeting customer satisfaction objectives. The role also involves championing and implementing innovative software enhancements based on an evolving understanding of PayPal’s business needs, leveraging support from cross-functional teams including Analytics, Marketing, Business Units, and Product Engineering. The engineer will build performance-efficient, highly scalable, configurable, and available software applications and systems, and define, design, and implement complex, multi-tier distributed software applications. This includes designing, developing, and testing high throughput back-end software systems, developing object-oriented software, and designing, coding, and testing complex software features. The role also entails developing software code, leading code review sessions, and segmenting and designing technical system layers to support componentized and layered software application development, including business logic functionality and database/component repository access. Identifying and fixing performance, scalability, and other software live issues in a time-critical environment, as well as identifying and making recommendations to reduce software project risks, are crucial. The engineer will work with other engineers, managers, product management, quality analysts, and operations teams to develop innovative technical solutions that meet market needs regarding functionality, performance, availability, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to software development goals and principles. Engagement with stakeholders across Product Development, Quality Assurance, and Business domains to present potential solutions addressing application performance and security concerns within subsystems is expected. The ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently, thrive in a dynamic environment, and deliver results through adept influence while adhering to deadlines is essential. Partial telecommuting is permitted from within a commutable distance.

Requirements

Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
Object Oriented Programming Languages including C++, Java, and Objective C (2 years)
Web services and Web Based Programming Languages including REST APIs, CSS, HTML, and JavaScript (2 years)
Data Structures and Algorithms (2 years)
SQL and NoSQL Databases (2 years)
Cloud Services such as Google Analytics (GCP) (1 year)
Linux/Unix Environments (1 year)
Developer Tools including JIRA and GIT (2 years)
