About The Position

The Software Engineer will join Anduril’s Space Special Programs team in Chantilly, Virginia, developing and implementing the lifecycle of flight, ground-test, and ground-station software at embedded and application levels. The role spans embedded and host software, communications, data storage, computer vision, FPGA interfacing, and algorithms. The engineer will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional partners to design, develop, test, integrate, and operate spacecraft and space systems for demanding mission environments. The position involves translating mission needs and requirements into reliable, efficient, reusable software; contributing to system and mission designs; supporting rapid prototyping, design verification, qualification, integration, and test; and creating design artifacts and customer-facing documentation. The engineer is expected to be a strong individual contributor, support teammates, and manage multiple concurrent projects and customers in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical or computer engineering, or a similar engineering or technical field.
  • At least 3 years of software engineering experience directly developing a combination of embedded, host, and product-specific software.
  • Experience developing subsystem requirements and interfaces, including mission systems, and developing reusable software architectures to meet those requirements.
  • Experience writing embedded C code and device drivers, and implementing algorithms with limited computational and storage resources.
  • Experience writing host-level code for GUIs, database interaction, and protocol interfaces or translators that connect spacecraft system components, with or without an explicit interface control document (ICD).
  • Experience on mature spacecraft development programs, including operational and environmental testing.
  • Experience developing design artifacts such as design review materials (CoDR, SDR, PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.), design notes, and other documentation explaining software algorithms and intent.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including presenting developed artifacts.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in aerospace, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a similar engineering or technical field.
  • Demonstrated high ownership and autonomy across the cradle-to-grave lifecycle of a spacecraft or space system.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an extremely fast-paced, nimble environment with programs that have limited, broad Level-0 requirements.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in a classified environment.
  • Experience designing, integrating, and flying CubeSat spacecraft intended to operate in LEO through GEO environments.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a cross-functional team to design hardware-based products.
  • Drive product maturity through rapid prototyping, design verification, and qualification activities.
  • Apply space-flight software design standards and guidelines, including fault detection and recovery, error checking, and data redundancy.
  • Design and develop flight, ground, and payload systems to meet mission requirements, and communicate goals and tasks to the team.
  • Contribute to team execution and help teammates resolve technical challenges.
  • Translate mission needs into efficient, reusable software products.
  • Help establish internal guidelines and best practices for space-flight software design, testing, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Conduct peer-level and cross-discipline design reviews.
  • Develop customer-facing system design documentation and presentations.
  • Help drive development, integration, and test activities to meet schedule.
  • Implement flight, ground-test, and ground-station software across embedded and application levels.
  • Develop software involving data protocols, RF communication, machine learning, computer vision, control algorithms, host-side user interfaces, equipment interfaces, machine-to-machine communication, data analysis, display, compression, and data extraction.
  • Interface with existing Command and Control software and databases to integrate spacecraft systems.
  • Develop code at the intersection of hardware, FPGA, and software.
  • Contribute to system and mission designs and concepts.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of total compensation.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, available at little to no cost to employees.
