About The Position

CoreAI is part of Microsoft’s mission to redefine how software is built and experienced, creating foundational platforms, services, programming models, and developer experiences for applications powered by Generative AI. The CoreAI Cloud Foundation team, within the broader Azure organization, helps developers build and manage highly scalable distributed applications on Azure. Its services include Azure Container Apps, Azure SRE Agent, Azure App Service (WebApps), Azure Functions, Azure API Management, and Azure Logic Apps, supporting web, mobile, API, event-driven, IoT, and next-generation AI workloads, including mission-critical applications for major enterprises. As a Software Engineer, you will build and ship features for large-scale distributed cloud services, owning work from design through production. The role offers the opportunity to deepen expertise in distributed systems, develop skills in operating live cloud services, and use AI tools throughout the software development lifecycle. This is a hybrid position requiring onsite work at least three days per week, with the flexibility to work from home the remainder of the week. The position requires an active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Polygraph, as well as U.S. citizenship verification. Candidates must satisfy Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements before an offer and after hire. The role also requires successful clearance verification and passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter. Failure to obtain or maintain the required clearance or screening may result in employment action, including termination.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, with proven coding experience in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
Must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Polygraph.
Must meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements before an offer and after hire.
Must provide clearance verification information and successfully verify the stated security clearance.
Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
Must verify U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions.

Nice To Haves

Hands-on experience with distributed systems and cloud services.
Experience working in a services environment and/or building developer tools.
Proven ability to track complex technical issues for running online services.
Experience with .NET-based systems.
Experience using Linux, Docker, or Kubernetes.
Experience using public cloud services such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.

Responsibilities

Build and deliver new services, features, and developer tools that define how applications are developed and hosted on Azure.
Write high-quality code for open-source and platform components in a variety of programming languages, independently and collaboratively.
Own features from design through implementation and production on large-scale distributed systems important to Microsoft's cloud strategy.
Support features through an on-call rotation by monitoring systems, mitigating and resolving incidents, and investigating outage root causes.
Create and update operating procedures and troubleshooting guides for services spanning multiple regions and time zones.
Partner with teams across Microsoft to learn and integrate their technologies, and responsibly use AI tools and practices across the software development lifecycle.
