About The Position

At Kestrel, Software Engineers help build scalable autonomy systems for commercial and national security customers. The systems support complex missions across domains such as space, air, land, and sea, and fields including AI, orbital dynamics, and geospatial science. The role leads development of CI/CD artifacts, data structures, data-processing pipelines, components of an agentic AI architecture, and user-interface components. It also focuses on designing and deploying infrastructure, leading deployment of Python-based APIs to cloud environments, and establishing infrastructure practices that support secure, compliant, and scalable operations. The engineer will use AWS GovCloud and DoD Impact Level experience to guide compliance-ready designs and future government deployments, while planning for multi-cloud support and identifying infrastructure and compliance risks early.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Experience with large-scale infrastructure architecture.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong software engineering background, particularly in API development and distributed or service-oriented systems.
  • Prior experience designing or operating multi-cloud environments.
  • Based near Colorado Springs, Colorado, or Washington, D.C., including customer sites in Crystal City, Virginia, and Herndon, Virginia.
  • Active TS//SCI clearance with a counterintelligence-scope polygraph (CSP) or full-scope polygraph (FSP).

Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy infrastructure using Terraform.
  • Lead deployment of Python-based APIs to cloud environments.
  • Establish infrastructure practices, including development, staging, and production environment separation; secure networking, IAM, and secrets management; and logging, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
  • Apply AWS GovCloud and DoD Impact Level experience to support compliance-ready infrastructure and architecture choices for future government deployments.
  • Design infrastructure and deployment patterns that support multi-cloud environments, including cloud-agnostic Terraform modules where practical, minimizing provider lock-in for core services, and supporting commercial cloud and GovCloud deployments.
  • Plan and advise on future AWS GovCloud and DoD Impact Level deployments.
  • Identify and mitigate infrastructure and compliance risks early.
  • Develop CI/CD artifacts, data structures, data-processing pipelines, agentic AI architecture components, and user-interface components.
