$208,000 - $312,000Onsite

About The Position

Vercel is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Agent Stack team to help build eve, Vercel's framework for creating production-ready AI agents. Eve is designed to be an opinionated, batteries-included framework similar to Next.js for web apps, allowing developers to focus on unique agent features while the platform handles the rest. The role involves designing and implementing core framework primitives, contributing to eve's runtime (which utilizes Vercel Workflows, AI SDK, and Sandbox), and enhancing the developer experience for AI-native applications. The position reports to the Director of Vercel's Agent Stack and is based onsite in New York City. For employees within commuting distance of Vercel offices (SF, NY, London, or Berlin), in-office anchor days are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, regardless of whether the role is listed as remote. Specific location details can be obtained from the recruiting team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of production TypeScript/JavaScript experience.
  • Proficiency in owning complex, stateful systems from end to end.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts, including durable execution, checkpointing, async workflows, and failure recovery.
  • Experience building or operating developer tooling, frameworks, or SDKs for external developers.
  • Familiarity with LLM APIs and agent orchestration patterns (tool calling, multi-agent delegation, human-in-the-loop flows).
  • Proven track record of shipping high-quality open-source or customer-facing APIs.
  • Deep care for API design.

Responsibilities

  • Design and ship core Eve framework features, including file-system conventions, compiler, and runtime, to enable durable, production-ready agents on Vercel.
  • Build and maintain integrations for Eve's channel layer (e.g., Slack, Web Chat, WhatsApp, API, Cron) and connections layer (e.g., Vercel Connect / MCP endpoints).
  • Collaborate with the AI SDK, Workflows, and Sandbox teams to ensure seamless composition of Eve's primitives on the Vercel platform.
  • Enhance developer experience (DX) through CLI ergonomics, clear error messages, comprehensive documentation, and helpful examples, enabling TypeScript/Next.js developers to quickly build their first agent.
  • Contribute to Eve's evaluation and observability features, including test suites, scoring rubrics, and deployment-time evaluations to ensure agent production safety.
  • Partner with early customers and internal teams to gather feedback, diagnose agent reliability issues, and implement rapid iterations.

Benefits

  • Equity-based compensation
  • Company bonus or variable pay program
