Software Engineer, Developer Platform
About The Position
As a Developer Platform engineer at Notion, you will build foundational tools, APIs, and platform experiences that make Notion extensible and connected. You will help customers bring their apps, data, and workflows into Notion and make it easier for developers, admins, and builders to create reliable integrations and automations. The role includes internal platform contributions that accelerate other engineering teams and customer-facing functionality that enables toolmaking. You will address complex technical challenges and identify and execute investments that support the long-term quality, reliability, performance, flexibility, and sustainability of Notion’s platform and core systems as the product scales. You will work with engineers and cross-functional partners in product, design, data science, and user research to define product strategy and deliver work from conception and research through implementation and maintenance. The role is based in San Francisco or New York City, with in-office work on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience shipping production software, with a strong track record of owning features end-to-end.
- Fluency with TypeScript across backend and frontend.
- Strong product instincts, including the ability to take a vague problem, propose a solid technical approach, and determine when to cut scope.
- Curiosity about AI and willingness to adopt AI tools to work more effectively and deliver better results.
Nice To Haves
- Experience building developer tools such as APIs and SDKs.
- Experience driving teams toward shared goals while balancing business priorities with individuals’ strengths, interests, and career development goals.
- Familiarity with AI or agent tooling, evaluations, or LLM-driven product experiences.
Responsibilities
- Work with engineers and partners across product, design, data science, and user research to define product strategy and drive execution from conception and research through implementation and maintenance.
- Evolve Developer Platform capabilities across APIs, MCP tools, and integration infrastructure so customers can automate workflows, customize Notion, and connect it to their everyday tools and data.
- Contribute to the performance, reliability, and robustness of Notion as it scales.
- Partner with engineering leaders to identify and execute high-leverage technical investments supporting the long-term flexibility and sustainability of core systems.
- Build platform capabilities that support internal engineering teams and enable customers and developers to create integrations and automations.
