About The Position
Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring technical excellence through design reviews and mentorship. The successful candidate will collaborate across teams to translate complex problems into actionable solutions, promote engineering best practices, and contribute to continuous improvement. The Walmart Translation Platform team develops an advanced translation solution leveraging neural networks to achieve exceptional accuracy and fluency. The team addresses large-scale data challenges using cutting-edge algorithms in information retrieval, machine learning, and ranking to deliver a high-availability, low-latency service that directly supports business objectives. Team members apply cloud-native architecture principles and software design patterns to build scalable, resilient systems. Collaboration drives innovation, with a focus on continuous improvement, technical excellence, and data-driven decision-making to enhance platform capabilities and overall engineering productivity.
Requirements
- Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
- Strong experience in software development lifecycle management, encompassing coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
- Proficiency in API design, software prototyping, and applying software design patterns for secure, modular, and maintainable solutions.
- Ability to lead technical design reviews and remedial actions to uphold quality and alignment with architectural standards.
- Skilled in DevOps engineering practices to enhance infrastructure, tooling, and developer productivity.
- Data-driven decision-making capabilities to define metrics and optimize engineering processes.
- Demonstrated mentorship and leadership fostering technical growth and collaboration across teams.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
- Creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities
- Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
- Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
- Lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
- Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components to enhance automation and intelligence.
- Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics using data-driven practices.
- Drive continuous improvement by evaluating tools, processes, and code quality to optimize outcomes.
