About The Position

The Software Engineer designs and develops software for HPE’s Alletra Enterprise Storage Platform, including storage services, data path components, and systems infrastructure. The role involves implementing scalable, highly concurrent solutions using modern C++ in Linux environments and contributing to distributed storage features focused on availability, data integrity, and operational efficiency. The engineer investigates and resolves functional, reliability, and performance issues using profiling and diagnostic tools. The role collaborates with software, performance, platform, and quality engineering teams; participates in design, code, and test reviews; and develops automated tests and validation frameworks to strengthen product quality and release confidence. The engineer also evaluates technologies and approaches to improve storage capabilities and engineering productivity, and mentors less experienced engineers. The position is hybrid, with an expectation to work an average of two days per week from an HPE office. The stated base salary range varies by location: $132,500–$252,500 in Colorado, $143,000–$273,000 in Massachusetts, and $126,500–$290,500 in North Carolina. Variable incentives may also be offered.

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
Typically 6–10 years of experience.
Extensive experience with software system design tools and programming languages.
C++ experience, including STL, Boost, templates, basic C++, and object-oriented programming concepts; Python experience.
Knowledge of systems, distributed systems, or embedded systems.
Linux operating system knowledge, including operating systems, CPU, memory, and system architecture.
Multithreaded programming experience.
Knowledge of algorithms and data structures, and experience writing performant code.
Experience with debugging and profiling tools such as GDB and perf.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with the overall architecture of software systems for products and solutions.
Experience designing and integrating software systems running on multiple platform types into an overall architecture.
Experience evaluating software testing forms and processes, including writing and executing test plans, debugging, and using testing scripts and tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, mastery of English and the local language, and ability to communicate product architectures and design proposals and negotiate options at senior management levels.

Nice To Haves

Experience with file systems, storage, data path work, or systems infrastructure code.
Knowledge of Kubernetes.
