About The Position

The Apple Cloud Engineering team is seeking a software engineer to build and integrate software that orchestrates workloads across high-performance, energy-efficient systems for next-generation data centers. The role focuses on using hardware acceleration for machine learning and high-performance computing workloads, and on building and maintaining system software—including runtime libraries, frameworks, and daemons—that will power future data centers. The engineer will work across Apple teams to adapt, tailor, and scale software on a novel compute platform and help establish the foundation for Apple’s future cloud architecture. The position works cross-functionally with architecture, platform design, and software teams to develop and integrate hardware, software, and services. The engineer will build and maintain system infrastructure for next-generation data centers and ensure quality and agility through unit, integration, and performance testing. The role calls for strong software design and programming skills, problem-solving ability, clear communication, and a willingness to develop features, maintain existing code, and fix bugs.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in software development, building and managing cloud infrastructure, or distributed systems.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong engineering skills in Pkl or a similar configuration language, including design, testing, debugging, code review, and long-term maintainability.
  • Knowledge of operating system architecture and low-level system components.
  • Experience with cloud orchestration engines such as Kubernetes or Nomad.
  • A track record of building, shipping, and operating production cloud services or infrastructure.
  • Experience with Linux, including systemd, cgroups, containers, and socket IPC, and creating, running, and debugging user-space processes using tools such as eBPF.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Strong software design and programming skills, problem-solving ability, and collaborative communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Swift, Objective-C, and Apple development tools.
  • Familiarity with OCI image and runtime specifications, runc, Linux namespaces, cgroups, and overlay filesystems.
