Software Engineer
About The Position
Designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs software programs for enhancements and new products. For the HPE Alletra Enterprise Storage Platform, this role develops storage services, data path components, and systems infrastructure, including scalable and highly concurrent solutions in modern C++ on Linux. The engineer addresses functional, reliability, and performance issues, contributes to distributed storage design, and works with software, performance, platform, and quality engineering teams to deliver robust features. The role also contributes to reviews, automated testing, technology evaluation, mentoring, and team knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
- Typically 6–10 years of experience.
- Extensive experience with multiple software systems design tools and languages.
- C++ experience, including STL, Boost, templates, basic C++, and object-oriented programming concepts; Python experience.
- Knowledge of systems, distributed, or embedded systems.
- Knowledge of the Linux operating system, including OS, CPU, memory, and system architecture.
- Multithreaded programming experience.
- Knowledge of algorithms and data structures, and experience writing performant code.
- Experience with debugging and profiling tools such as GDB and perf.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in the overall architecture of software systems for products and solutions.
- Ability to design and integrate software systems running on multiple platform types into an overall architecture.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery of English and the local language.
- Ability to communicate product architectures and design proposals and negotiate options at senior management levels.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with file systems, storage, data path work, or systems infrastructure code.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop software for the HPE Alletra Enterprise Storage Platform, including storage services, data path components, and systems infrastructure.
- Implement scalable and highly concurrent solutions using modern C++ in Linux environments.
- Investigate, debug, and resolve functional, reliability, and performance issues using profiling and diagnostic tools.
- Contribute to the design of distributed storage features focused on availability, data integrity, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with software, performance, platform, and quality engineering teams to deliver product features.
- Participate in design, code, and test reviews to ensure maintainable, high-quality software.
- Develop automated tests and validation frameworks to improve product quality and release confidence.
- Evaluate and integrate technologies and approaches that enhance storage capabilities and engineering productivity.
- Mentor less experienced engineers and contribute to technical discussions and knowledge sharing.
- Design and integrate software systems running on multiple platform types into an overall architecture.
- Evaluate software testing forms and processes, including writing and executing test plans, debugging, and testing scripts and tools.
