About The Position

Schoolhouse is seeking Mid-level Software Engineers to join their 5-person engineering team. In this role, you will own full-stack features used by hundreds of thousands of learners and tutors globally. Engineers at Schoolhouse have significant ownership, working directly with designers and stakeholders to develop new experiments and improve existing operations. The position involves tackling challenges at the intersection of UX, people operations, and technology to ensure high-quality and safe interactions between students worldwide. Examples of past projects include building an AI simulation for tutors, experimenting with new ways to connect tutors with learners, and creating a moderation system for safety issues.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a full-stack software engineer with a track record of building and shipping full-stack features.
  • Ability to explain the product and technical tradeoffs behind the approaches taken.
  • Experience with Typescript, Node.js, React, Next.js, and Postgres (or ability to ramp up quickly).
  • User-centric approach with an understanding of user needs.
  • Ability to move quickly while maintaining code quality.
  • Independent problem-solving skills, with the ability to ask for help when needed.
  • Willingness to take on different roles as needed to support users.
  • Availability to work in a US timezone.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep technical experience with Typescript, Node.js, React, Next.js, Postgres, AWS, and GCP.
  • Experience building mobile apps.
  • Experience working in education or on an ed-tech product.

Responsibilities

  • Work with users and teammates to understand problems, contribute product ideas, and take work from prototypes / experiments through deployment.
  • Scope work and make technical decisions with support from experienced teammates.
  • Write simple, readable code that’s easy to maintain and change.
  • Participate in code reviews and pairing sessions to help maintain codebase quality.
