About The Position

Join Apple’s Information Systems and Technology group (IS&T) as a Software Engineer on the AI & Data Platforms (AiDP) team. AiDP brings together data, application development, machine learning—including generative AI—and data services to help IS&T build solutions efficiently and expand the adoption of generative AI across Apple. As part of the ACM Platform team, you will design, develop, and operate high-throughput, low-latency distributed services supporting more than 1,500 internal Apple users. You will collaborate with software engineers, project and product managers, product designers, engineering teams, fraud analysts, business partners, and internal and external partners to build scalable platform capabilities for fraud detection and case management. The role includes independently owning features and services and collaborating with senior engineers on larger platform initiatives.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional work experience.
At least 4 years of software engineering experience developing backend or distributed systems.
Strong Java development experience, preferably with modern JDK versions.
Hands-on coding experience with Python.
Good understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, reliability, and fault-tolerant design.
Hands-on experience with some combination of Kafka, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, Solr, Cassandra, or similar distributed technologies.
Experience developing cloud-native applications and working with Kubernetes.
Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and perform performance analysis and optimization.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to independently deliver well-defined technical projects.
Good communication and collaboration skills across engineering and cross-functional teams.
Self-motivated and accountable, with comfort taking ownership of components and features from design through production.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with AI concepts, LLM-based development tools, or AI-assisted software engineering.

Responsibilities

Design and develop scalable backend services using Java and distributed systems principles.
Build and maintain high-throughput, low-latency APIs.
Build reliable, scalable, and observable cloud-native services using technologies such as Kubernetes, Kafka, OpenSearch, Solr, and Cassandra.
Contribute to platform modernization, including service migrations, data routing, ingestion pipelines, and infrastructure improvements.
Develop and enhance deployment automation, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, performance testing, and operational tooling.
Troubleshoot production issues, perform performance tuning, and improve service reliability and operational efficiency.
Partner with Product, Architecture, and other engineering teams to translate requirements into well-designed technical solutions.
Contribute to technical design discussions, code reviews, testing strategies, and engineering best practices.
Use AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering practices to improve developer productivity, automation, code quality, and platform innovation.
Own features and services independently while collaborating with senior engineers on larger platform initiatives.
