About The Position

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company focused on building the Waymo Driver, which powers its fully autonomous ride-hail service and can be applied to other vehicle platforms and product use cases. Software Engineering develops the software that enables the Waymo Driver to perceive its surroundings, make decisions, and transport people safely. The team works on technical challenges in robotics, perception, decision-making, and deep learning, in collaboration with hardware and systems engineers. As a 2027 summer intern, you will contribute to infrastructure for administering a “virtual driver’s test” for the Waymo Driver. You will implement a project for scalable simulation data pipelines that evaluate the Waymo Driver’s driving capability, and apply software engineering best practices to improve code health and/or developer experience in the virtual driver’s test. The position is a hybrid onsite internship. The expected hourly rate is $70 for Master's interns and $85 for PhD interns; interns may also participate in company benefits programs, subject to eligibility requirements.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
C/C++ proficiency.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excited about autonomous driving and eager to learn.

Nice To Haves

SQL skills.
Python programming skills.
Familiarity with distributed systems.
Comfort with AI-assisted development features and workflows.

Responsibilities
