About The Position

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company focused on building the Waymo Driver to improve access to mobility and reduce traffic fatalities. The Software Engineer will design, develop, and deploy data pipeline, storage, and query infrastructure supporting autonomous driving training and evaluation. The role involves building and improving large-scale systems and collaborating with teams working in simulation, planning, perception, and commercialization.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field and 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or a Software Engineering-related occupation; alternatively, a master’s degree in one of these fields and 3 years of experience.
3 years of experience using data structures and algorithms to optimize backend software performance and efficiency.
3 years of experience with backend systems and infrastructure for large-scale software applications.
3 years of experience with large-scale distributed systems and data processing frameworks.
3 years of experience using data processing frameworks for high-volume data pipelines.
3 years of experience with C++, Java, or Python.
3 years of experience writing SQL queries for relational database management and data retrieval.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and deploy data pipeline, storage, and query infrastructure for autonomous driving training and evaluation.
Write high-quality, testable, and maintainable code to ensure robust software performance.
Participate in peer code reviews to uphold engineering standards and improve development practices.
Enhance existing systems for performance, scalability, and reliability across large-scale applications.
Monitor system health, proactively resolve issues, and provide technical support to internal users.
Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and engineers to align data solutions with simulation, planning, perception, and commercialization needs.
