About The Position

As a Software Engineer on the Litigation Drafting team, you will build the next generation of AI agentic products for legal professionals. The team turns early Labs concepts into scalable, production-ready features, including products with complex workflow interfaces and specialized legal agents. The role is intended for someone early in their career who wants to move quickly, take ownership, and use AI tools to increase their impact. It focuses on backend development, with opportunities to gain frontend experience and develop into a full-stack engineer. You will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, contribute ideas and solutions, learn new technologies, and take accountability for end-to-end delivery. The position involves building and productionizing AI features, backend services, and reliable cloud-native workflows, while collaborating with Product, design, and Labs teams.

Requirements

  • 1–3+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Working knowledge of Python.
  • Experience with cloud services on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Solid understanding of RESTful API design, distributed systems, and microservices architecture.
  • Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Excellent debugging skills and a proven ability to deliver production-ready, highly reliable systems.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced, iterative environments and strong cross-functional communication skills.
  • Evidence of learning quickly, including an example of something self-taught and shipped and an explanation of how it was learned.

Nice To Haves

  • BA or BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience optimizing backend performance, including monitoring, profiling, and tuning for scale.
  • Hands-on experience building AI-powered product features, ideally agentic AI workflows with multi-step reasoning.
  • Experience with tool/API orchestration, LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, or Claude Agent SDK / AgentCore at runtime.
  • Experience with Agentic UI, SSE/AG-UI streaming semantics, TypeScript, or React.
  • Experience with Datadog (logs/RUM/traces), CloudWatch Log Insights, or Braintrust.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML infrastructure, including vector databases, model serving, and cost/latency optimization for LLM-powered features.
  • Experience with testing, automation, and operational robustness.
  • Prior experience working on products for legal, compliance, or other regulated professional domains.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship AI agentic features end to end, from written requirements through design, implementation, code review, and production; own straightforward projects with moderate guidance.
  • Design and build backend services using Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL to support real-time AI interactions and large-scale data flows.
  • Contribute to AI-powered capabilities, including agentic workflows, LLM orchestration, and content pipelines.
  • Integrate with LLM providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic, implementing orchestration, routing, error handling, guardrails, telemetry, and observability.
  • Strengthen CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation for fast, stable, cloud-native development workflows.
  • Use AI coding and testing tools in personal work and help build AI capabilities into the product; apply AI where appropriate to business requirements.
  • Read unfamiliar code, perform root cause analysis, troubleshoot production behavior, and address issues identified by automated code quality inspection.
  • Contribute to automated testing strategy and continuous integration and delivery pipelines, treating test coverage as part of feature development.
  • Participate in design discussions, agile ceremonies, and cross-team work with Product, design, and Labs teams.
  • Share learning, support colleagues, and contribute to a team culture where learning out loud is normal.

Benefits

  • Flexible hybrid work environment for office-based roles.
  • Work from anywhere for up to 8 weeks per year.
  • Flexible vacation and paid time off, including sick and safe time off and paid holidays.
  • Two company-wide Mental Health Days off and access to the Headspace app.
  • Retirement savings plan with company match.
  • Tuition reimbursement.
  • Employee incentive programs and potential annual bonus based on enterprise and individual performance.
  • Health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance.
  • Parental leave and sabbatical leave.
  • Fitness reimbursement and access to an Employee Assistance Program.
  • Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts.
  • Commuter benefits.
  • Adoption and surrogacy assistance.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
  • Two paid volunteer days off annually and opportunities for pro-bono consulting projects and ESG initiatives.
