About The Position

As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. The Fleet Management, Obtainability and Data (FMOD) is an AI and Computing Infrastructure (ACI) supporting team. FMOD is responsible for the capacity experience of ACI customers from the demand management side as well as the final preparation of capacity for consumption. This team will also partner closely with ACI product management and engineering to understand the complex requirements of NPIs and the implications to the forecasting, supply planning and capacity management systems. Examples of NPIs are N4, C4, Z4, and even E4 and internal products used by 1P customers. While other teams in Google Global Fleet (GGF) order capacity, this team assimilates these machines into bc-pools for scheduling of VMs by compute infrastructure. We select the pools and rebalance machines to meet efficiency and obtainability goals. This team assimilates all ACI capacity including ML and Standard Compute machines. We manage and determine the holdbacks for machine updates and maintenance of the fleet. This role is highly accountable for annual efficiency savings produced by holdback optimization, bc-pool fungibility and safety stock reduction as a result of shared capacity. Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience programming in C++.
7 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.

Responsibilities

Lead advanced VM shape-based capacity planning and workload prediction to optimize regional and zonal resource distribution. Ensure infrastructure meets GCP customer demands while navigating the heterogeneity of VM products to reduce costs and avoid stock-outs.
Architect and implement fungibility solutions and capacity-sharing infrastructure across ACI and Central Fleet.
Drive capacity savings and operational efficiency by creating compute/storage overcommit technologies, minimizing system overheads and maintenance holdbacks, and influencing scheduling improvements to reduce stranded resources.
Enable NPIs and AI accelerator initiatives (GPUs/TPUs) through deterministic capacity observability, predictable capacity landing, and the development of Unified Capacity Interfaces between GGF and ACI consumption systems.
Guide executive decision-makers on cloud infrastructure investments by partnering closely with GCE, Cloud Capacity Planning, and product engineering. Lead horizontal efforts spanning multiple organizations to ensure rapid, cost-effective capacity scaling and operational delivery.
