The News & Insights team is looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer with a strong frontend focus. You will help shape the experience behind Realtor.com's News & Insights platform, a decoupled, headless content system that serves millions of readers and distributes content to partners like MSN, Yahoo, and The Wall Street Journal. Our architecture pairs a React/Next.js frontend with a WordPress + WPGraphQL backend, connected through persisted GraphQL queries and a multi-layered caching stack. As part of this team, you'll build and expand features end-to-end, harden the platform's performance and reliability, and help us grow the system that powers one of Realtor.com's highest-traffic content surfaces.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of web development experience with strong knowledge of modern JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks (e.g. React, Next.js)
  • Solid backend experience in any language (e.g. Node.js, PHP, Python, Java, Ruby). You're comfortable working across the stack, designing APIs, and reasoning about server-side behavior
  • Experience with GraphQL (schema design, queries, clients such as Apollo or graphql-request) or a strong foundation in API design and an eagerness to go deep on GraphQL
  • Knowledge of TypeScript and modern CSS approaches (e.g. styled-components, CSS Modules, Sass) and best practices around responsive layouts, accessibility, and performance
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug web application problems such as front-end performance (Core Web Vitals), bundle size optimization, SSR/SSG/ISR and caching issues, accessibility problems, layout issues, and cross-browser bugs
  • Experience with SEO best practices and page performance optimization — especially valuable for a content-heavy, search-driven property
  • Experience with caching strategies (CDN/edge, object caching, static/incremental rendering) and an understanding of how they affect correctness and freshness
  • Experience with digital accessibility and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG); familiarity with manual accessibility testing using assistive technologies is a plus
  • Experience with testing tools such as Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright
  • Experience with the AWS service ecosystem and modern CI/CD (e.g. CloudFront, ECS/EKS, S3, CircleCI, ArgoCD/Kubernetes) to support build automation, testing, and deployment
  • Experience with build systems and transpilers (e.g. webpack, Babel, SWC)
  • Ability to present complex technical concepts and trade-offs to both engineering and business audiences
  • Strong communication skills with a growth and learning mindset
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering/related field or equivalent professional experience

Nice To Haves

  • Direct WordPress experience is not required. We have WordPress specialists on the team. What matters is that you're a strong full-stack engineer who's frontend-forward and comfortable working in a backend codebase regardless of the language.
  • Missing checkmarks on a few items in the "About you…" section? Don't fret! We're looking for people who have a passion for building great web experiences and love to learn new things, so we'd still love to hear from you if you think you'd be a great fit!

Responsibilities

  • Work on the News & Insights team to build and expand consumer-facing features across our full stack: a React/Next.js frontend and a WordPress backend connected over GraphQL
  • Build modular, performant, responsive, and accessible (WCAG 2.1) React components and pages, in collaboration with our Design System and content teams, that adhere to our best practices
  • Develop and extend the platform's data layer: GraphQL queries and schema, persisted-query workflows, Node.js services, and the API surface between the frontend and the CMS
  • Own and improve our caching and rendering architecture — Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR), CDN/edge caching, and object caching — to keep content fresh while serving it fast at scale
  • Drive SEO and Core Web Vitals improvements on a high-traffic news property where search performance and page speed directly affect the business
  • Ensure code is well-tested using automated frameworks, including unit, component, and end-to-end (e2e) tests
  • Use frontier LLM AI tools to deliver high-quality code with velocity, anywhere human judgement and decision making isn’t needed. Help the team to improve their AI fluency and effectiveness.
  • Improve developer experience and platform health: intuitive APIs, thorough documentation, observability, and reduced operational friction
  • Provide technical guidance and support through code reviews, design sessions, and ad hoc collaboration; help bridge gaps between product, design, content, and engineering
  • Research and identify opportunities to improve our existing systems and processes, create analysis documentation and proofs of concept, and present initiatives to engineering and business audiences
  • Work with team leadership to influence and define short/long-term goals and roadmaps
  • Engage in Agile ceremonies like standups, weekly planning, and retrospectives, and contribute to our incident-response and operational practices
