About The Position

USAA is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to contribute to a high-visibility mortgage transformation that is building a target-state lending experience. Blend will power the member-facing mortgage application, while Empower will support loan origination through closing. Embedded within a Scrum team, the engineer will provide hands-on expertise in one of these platforms, including configuration, customization, integrations, data movement, end-to-end testing, and production support. The role involves designing and delivering complex technical solutions across multiple technologies, integrating existing systems and tools, resolving application and production issues, and contributing to domain architecture and quality standards. The engineer will collaborate with engineers, architects, stakeholders, and Agile Scrum teams; mentor other engineers; and help ensure risks are managed in accordance with applicable policies and procedures. The position is based in San Antonio, Texas, or Plano, Texas, and requires working in the office four days per week. Relocation assistance is not available. The salary range is $114,080 to $218,030, with actual salary varying by location and experience. Employees may be eligible for performance-based incentives. Requirements

At least 6 years of software development experience demonstrating deep technical expertise in enterprise platform engineering and systems integration.
At least 4 years of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the engineering lifecycle.
Expertise in either the Blend Point of Sale Platform or the Dark Matter Empower LOS Platform, including core installation, integration into a digital experience, vendor and batch management, customization strategies, ongoing maintenance and support, and end-to-end testing and quality assurance.
Hands-on engineering experience across the full technology stack, including responsive web UI applications, APIs and backend services, and event-driven and data integration platforms.
Experience influencing technology integration, solution design, and modernization execution across multiple Agile Scrum teams.
Experience designing, developing, and maintaining complex software solutions involving multiple stakeholders.
Experience integrating AI capabilities into enterprise applications while meeting security, compliance, scalability, observability, and operational support requirements.
Ability to work in the office four days per week in San Antonio, Texas, or Plano, Texas.

Nice To Haves

Expertise in Golang, Java, Python, C++, or similar, and proficiency across multiple technologies and database platforms.
Deep knowledge of cloud-based development tools and processes, preferably AWS.
Hands-on experience with Spring, Spring Boot, and RESTful web services.
Deep understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
Experience building real-time streaming applications with Apache Kafka.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, code, and test complex tactical and strategic technical solutions across multiple technologies, including emerging technologies.
Integrate existing systems and tools in collaboration with engineers and architects within and occasionally outside the team or domain.
Lead code and design reviews and communicate updates to stakeholders to support daily operations and accurate planning.
Develop complex algorithms to meet business needs.
Investigate and resolve complex application, system, and production issues by directing end-to-end troubleshooting.
Mentor and coach engineers on system design, development, and maintenance, and review teammates' code.
Influence the domain's architecture and quality standards and identify and measure quality across the solution.
Identify system performance issues, including technical debt, and optimize the solution.
Ensure business risks are identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
Configure, customize, integrate, test, and support either the Blend Point of Sale platform or the Dark Matter Empower loan origination platform.
