About The Position

Capstone Research Corporation is seeking a Software Engineer to join its interdisciplinary Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis Group in the Huntsville, Alabama office. The role supports existing Joint Tactical Integrated Fire Control projects and programs, and involves developing advanced software and algorithms for aerospace, mission-system, and other complex applications. The engineer will collaborate with systems, software, and algorithm engineers to develop, integrate, test, and deploy software. Candidates with aerospace experience and experience developing, training, and evaluating neural networks are highly desirable. The posting describes 3–5 years of software engineering experience as desired, including co-op, internship, academic research, and/or other work experience; the requirements section states 1–5 years of professional software development experience. Compensation is determined based on factors including job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, market data, and internal equity. The role requires approximately 10% travel, U.S. citizenship, and the ability to qualify for a DoD Secret or higher clearance.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
1–5 years of professional software development experience.
Strong proficiency in modern C++ and/or Python.
Experience writing and maintaining unit tests with Google Test or a similar framework.
Ability to operate independently with technical guidance.
Strong understanding of software engineering principles, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
Excellent problem-solving skills and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.
Provide 3 references, including 1 personal reference and 2 familiar with the candidate’s prior professional work experience.
U.S. citizenship.
Must be able to qualify for a DoD Secret or higher clearance.

Nice To Haves

Experience with DoD operations, concepts, and technologies and their supporting sensors, effectors, and networks.
Experience working with CI/CD systems; GitLab CI is preferred.
Professional experience developing software for aerospace, defense, autonomous systems, control systems, or other complex mission systems.
Experience developing, training, and evaluating neural networks or machine-learning algorithms.
Understanding of machine-learning and deep-learning fundamentals.
Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn.
Strong background in data analysis, statistics, probability, and processing complex datasets.

Responsibilities

Work on-site within a collaborative team environment to engineer joint tactical integrated fire control solutions.
Design, develop, test, and maintain software using C++ and Python.
Develop algorithms and software supporting complex aerospace and mission-system applications.
Analyze complex datasets and develop software and algorithms to extract meaningful information and support engineering decisions.
Develop, train, test, and evaluate neural networks and machine-learning algorithms.
Prototype algorithms in Python and transition validated algorithms into efficient, production-quality C++ implementations.
Develop unit, integration, and system-level tests to verify software performance and correctness.
Analyze software and algorithm performance and identify opportunities for optimization.
