About The Position

Lead the team building critical software that powers Google’s Wide Area Network (WAN). Provide technical leadership on major projects, manage and develop software engineers, and contribute to product strategy. Guide system designs and deploy solutions that enable Google to operate its network more efficiently and at scale. The role involves managing engineers across multiple teams and locations, overseeing large-scale projects deployed across multiple international sites, and managing a large product budget. Develop mid-term technical goals and roadmaps, evolve them to meet future requirements and infrastructure needs, and contribute code to solve ambiguous problems.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development.
3 years of experience developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
2 years of experience in people management or team leadership.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.

Responsibilities

Set and communicate team priorities that support broader organizational goals, and align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
Set clear expectations for individuals based on their level and role; meet regularly to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching.
Develop and evolve mid-term technical goals and roadmaps for one or more teams to address anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.
Design, guide, and vet system designs within the broader area, and write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
Review other engineers’ code and provide feedback to ensure best practices, including style, code submission, accuracy, testability, and efficiency.
Provide technical leadership to major projects, manage and develop a team of software engineers, and contribute to product strategy.
Oversee deployment of large-scale projects across multiple international sites.
