Software Engineer - Marketplace Experimentation Platform
About The Position

Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states. The Platform team is part of the Marketplace engineering: we provide specialized business platforms supporting Marketplace ML and Optimization products. We own and host core ML models used throughout the Marketplace; we automate all parts of the model life cycle, such as feature engineering, training workflows and inference services; we are working on next-generation Marketplace Simulation system capable to run high-fidelity virtual experiments; we also streamline diverse Marketplace Experimentation practices with the goal of providing unified user-friendly Experimentation platform.
Requirements
- BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- 4+ years of experience programming in backend coding languages such as Java or C++
- Experience in building backend platforms supporting multiple product use-cases/services
- Experience working with product data science teams and developing code to automate ML/Optimization product launches
Nice To Haves
- MS in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience building and deploying high-fidelity simulation systems running ML/Optimization production code
- Experience developing and configuring Experimentation services running concurrent A/B or Switchback experiments
- Experience working at another Ride hailing or Marketplace company
- Coursework background in experiment design or simulation systems
Responsibilities
- Implement and scale the core economic engine for Waymo's ride-hailing commercial services.
- Work on novel experimentation, simulation and analysis infrastructure supporting Marketplace product data science.
