About The Position

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. Our team is part of Local Ads and is responsible for showing ads on map searches and search suggestions on the Google Maps mobile app and desktop website. We are a full stack team responsible for backend ads serving and quality, as well as client side rendering. Our team's mission is to serve good quality ads on maps without hampering user happiness while improving advertiser satisfaction and Google business. As a part of our team, you will be working on improving the quality of the ads (showing relevant and nearby results) and bringing new ad formats to life on Google Maps. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience with software development in Java or C++.
2 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
1 year of experience building and deploying information retrieval or recommendation systems (e.g., retrieval, prediction, ranking, personalization) in production.
Experience with front-end or full-stack development.

Responsibilities

Write and test product or system development code.
Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain serving of Maps Search and Suggest Ads.
Analyze experiment results and identify opportunities for improvements in ad quality, user happiness, and business.
Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
Develop and launch new and innovative ad formats on Google Maps.
