About The Position

Wells Fargo is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to support the Enterprise Functions Technology (EFT) group, which provides technology solutions for business lines including Risk, Audit, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Legal, Public Affairs, and Stakeholder Relations. EFT also delivers unique technology solutions and innovation for Wells Fargo Technology, Enterprise Shared Services, and Enterprise Data Management. This Senior Software Engineering Manager will be proficient in modern data lake technology stacks, capable of scaling across five or more scrum teams, and able to communicate effectively with senior business leaders. The role involves managing, coaching, and developing experienced engineers and engineering managers, ensuring adherence to Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements. The manager will collaborate with architects and engineers to integrate Wells Fargo Technology's technical strategies, understand next-generation domain architecture, and enable application migration paths to target architectures like cloud readiness and application modernization. They will act as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborations, identify and resolve technology roadblocks, manage software development cycles and security standards, and serve as an escalation partner for scrum masters to remove impediments and foster continuous improvement. The role includes building engineering skills within the codebase, conducting peer reviews, guiding design, interpreting and ensuring security, stability, and scalability, and managing technology and enterprise risk. Collaboration with Product Managers/Product Owners is key to driving user satisfaction, influencing technology requirements, promoting innovative solutions, and advocating for agile and DevOps practices. The manager will also interact with third-party vendors, manage resource allocation, and build a culture of talent development, including performance management.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 2+ years of Leadership experience
  • 3+ years of programming languages Java, Python, and Pyspark
  • 2 years of experience of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • 2 years of Agentic AI: Experience designing and deploying LLM-powered agents that can plan and execute multi-step workflows using tool/function calling (APIs, internal services, data stores), with human-in-the-loop controls, robust error handling, and monitoring/observability—implemented within secure, governed enterprise architectures and aligned to responsible AI, data privacy, and risk controls.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years working in large enterprise environments
  • 3+ years of Agile experience
  • 3+ years of experience managing geographically diverse teams including both multiple domestic and off-shore locations
  • Working experience working with Apache Iceberg open source format for large data lake solutions.
  • Understanding on a broad level IT infrastructure, database, and application development and design; this should include an understanding of Cloud based service topology

Responsibilities

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team or teams of experienced engineers and engineering managers in roles with moderate complexity and risk, responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology
  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
  • Partner with, engage and influence architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture and enable application migration paths to target architecture, for example cloud readiness, application modernization, data strategy
  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving escalated resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards
  • Determine appropriate strategy and actions to act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to meet moderate to high-risk deliverables and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement
  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed
  • Interpret, develop and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk
  • Collaborate with, partner with and influence Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices
  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure commitments are met and align with strategic objectives in technology engineering
  • Hire, build and guide a culture of talent development to have the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for product areas and products to meet business objectives and strategy, as well as conduct performance management for engineers and managers.
