About The Position

Curative is seeking a forward-deployed software engineer to serve as the technical owner of its health plan Finance and Accounting (F&A) platform. This role involves deep engagement with financial operations, working closely with the F&A team to understand and resolve issues directly. The engineer will be responsible for tracking data discrepancies, building AI agents to automate support and billing tasks, and transforming F&A workflows into software solutions. This position requires partnership with F&A and product stakeholders, architectural decision-making, production ownership, and representation in cross-team discussions. The role emphasizes an AI-first development approach, where engineers direct AI coding tools to implement features, resolve issues, and improve code quality, requiring strong fundamental skills to review AI-generated code effectively.

Requirements

  • 5+ years shipping production software.
  • Real fluency in Python and TypeScript.
  • Strong SQL and relational database fundamentals, including query plan analysis, N+1 detection, and understanding of migrations at scale.
  • Experience building data-intensive applications, including ETL/sync pipelines and interfaces, with a focus on data correctness.
  • A correctness mindset, with experience building systems where output must add up and implementing checks, invariants, and audit trails.
  • Systems thinking capabilities, including sketching architecture, identifying failure modes, and reasoning about blast radius.
  • Production cloud experience (AWS, GCP, or equivalent) and experience being on-call for a real system.
  • Comfort working directly with non-technical stakeholders, extracting requirements, and making them feel heard.
  • Genuine interest in financial data, the systems that produce it, and ensuring numerical accuracy.
  • Sharp written communication skills for prompts, specs, and PR descriptions.
  • Experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or equivalent) as a primary development tool.
  • Ability to structure prompts, manage subagents, and prevent AI output drift.
  • Discipline to review every AI-generated diff and not merge without thorough review.
  • Treating AI as a supervised junior engineer with high leverage.
  • Enjoyment in building tooling to enhance AI effectiveness (skills, evals, fixtures, integrations).
  • Understanding AI leverage as a means to own a product surface and stay close to users.

Nice To Haves

  • A portfolio of AI-assisted work (skills, agents, automations).
  • Experience being the single owner of a non-trivial service in production.
  • Experience with data-intensive or financial systems (data platforms, analytics, billing, payments, reporting).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical owner of the health plan Finance and Accounting (F&A) platform.
  • Work directly with the F&A team to understand and resolve financial data discrepancies.
  • Build and deploy AI agents to handle support and billing questions and automate manual F&A processes.
  • Partner with F&A and product stakeholders to translate workflows into software.
  • Set the architectural direction for the F&A platform.
  • Own the production environment, including cloud infrastructure, deployment, observability, on-call, incident response, and cost management.
  • Manage sensitive data (PHI and financial information) with a focus on data privacy.
  • Monitor and report on operational metrics, including reconciliation, automation impact, and data integrity.
  • Translate stakeholder needs into technical requirements and build trust through reliable delivery.
  • Co-own the product roadmap with F&A and product stakeholders, including sequencing work and proposing alternatives.
  • Develop strategy for the F&A platform surface, identifying patterns and proposing future development.
  • Manage integrations with internal services and third-party financial systems.
  • Develop expertise in health-plan finance workflows within 90 days.
