About The Position

Peraton is seeking Summer 2027 Software Engineer Interns to support our Internal Research & Development (IRAD) program which will be conducted in one of our Strategic Innovation Centers in Herndon, VA or Blacksburg, VA offices. Join one of our Strategic Innovation Centers and support exciting, advanced research projects in areas such as communications, space, cybersecurity, defense, public safety, and health. You’ll have the opportunity to work in a collaborative, supportive environment with our full-time staff, allowing you to grow your skills and your career while building experience in a variety of different projects and domains. You’ll work in an Agile software development environment supporting requirements/story development, software architecture and design, software development, and unit/component testing. We ask that each intern be available to work the duration of the ten weeks (June to August) and commit to working a minimum of 35-40 hours per week. This program is geared toward technical college students, actively enrolled at a four-year university, who will be rising into their junior or senior years. However, strong underclassmen may be considered if they have declared their major and have completed qualified coursework.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • HS Diploma and some advanced level training.
  • Have completed progress toward a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • Foundational experience in an object-oriented programming language, preferably in Java, and exposure to software engineering processes.
  • Familiarity with software development and/or scripting languages, such as Java, Python, C++, Bash, etc.
  • Hands-on programming experience through coursework and/or prior internships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to quickly adapt and learn new technologies and concepts.
  • Self-motivated, independent, detail-oriented, responsible team-player.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 3.0 and above GPA.
  • Exposure to Agile software development processes.
  • Familiarity with web development frameworks and/or database technologies.
  • Exposure to cloud computing environments.
