Software Engineer Intern
About The Position
Smarty is seeking software engineer interns who are students in a Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering program. Smarty is a 10+ year old company that is self-funded, profitable, growing, and fun, recognized as one of Utah's Top Workplaces four years running. This paid internship is for students and extends from January 2027 to mid-August 2027. It requires a minimum of 15+ hours/week during Winter/Spring Terms, with the opportunity for additional hours during the Summer term. Interns will work closely with a small team of software engineers to build and integrate business backend and API products, focusing on location data intelligence and creating meaningful customer experiences. This role is onsite in the Orem office.
Requirements
- Working towards a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent
- Experience in software development through class projects or previous internships
- Knowledge of relational databases
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with selected programming languages (Go, Java, .NET, Python, Ruby, PHP, server-side Javascript, or similar)
- Analytical mind with problem solving attitude
- Excellent organizational skills
