About The Position

The B21 Envelopes Management team at Docusign is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to help build and enhance the MSF Envelope service as we continue to move away from our core monolith toward a modern microservices architecture. In this role, you will collaborate with experienced engineers and product partners to design, implement, test, and document core envelope capabilities, including email, templates and other services that support the envelope lifecycle. You will gain hands-on experience in distributed systems, service design, and high-scale production engineering while contributing to customer-visible features in a supportive, learning-oriented environment. This is an internship role for 12 weeks of duration.

  • Experience in software development, including writing, debugging, and testing code
  • Solid foundation in computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design)
  • Familiarity with web services concepts (HTTP, REST) and basic API design
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts and distributed systems
  • Interest in large-scale, high-availability, customer-facing production services
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for learning new technologies
  • Applicants must already be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time, permanent basis without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Programming experience with C# and/or other object-oriented languages (for example, Java, C# or C++), through coursework, projects, or prior internships
  • Familiarity with modern AI tools and development workflows

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers and product partners to design and implement features in the MSF Envelope service that support the envelope lifecycle (e.g., email flows and related services)
  • Write, test, and debug code for microservices and related components, following team standards for code quality, reliability, and observability
  • Participate in code reviews, stand-ups, and design discussions, learning best practices for building and operating production services at scale
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for features and services you help build, including APIs, configuration, and operational runbooks
  • Partner with your mentor and teammates to break down problems into well-scoped tasks and deliver work in small, iterative increments
  • Help improve existing systems by investigating issues, analyzing root causes, and contributing fixes under guidance from senior engineers
