About The Position

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for someone to join our Communications & Cyber Security team as a Software Engineer Intern in Boise, Idaho. If you're a student attending a local university and can work full-time during the summer and part-time during the school year, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. Gain valuable hands-on experience, collaborate with industry professionals, and help develop solutions that make a difference. A typical day as a Software Engineer Intern might include: Developing features and enhancements for internal tools and applications. Assisting with validation, testing, and troubleshooting. Writing and maintaining automated tests. Learning about networking technologies and cybersecurity best practices. Participating in code reviews and technical discussions. Continuously identifying, measuring, and improving processes. Following and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles. Embracing the mindset: Understand. Create. Simplify. Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Current student pursuing a degree in computer science or equivalent with at least one year of technical coursework completed.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming through coursework, projects, or internships.
  • Basic understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages such as Java, C, C++, C#, or Python.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or hands-on experience in computer networking, network security, or cybersecurity.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems.
  • Experience using version control systems such as Git.
  • Knowledge of operating system fundamentals.
