About The Position

The Software Engineer III assists with guidance for small groups of two to three engineers, including offshore associates, on assigned engineering projects. The role supports business users, manages complex projects, troubleshoots business and production issues, and participates in the discovery and high-level design phases of small to medium-sized projects in partnership with product management, project management, business, and user experience teams.

The position is located at 2245 Monroe Street, Herndon, VA 20171. It requires a master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. No specific number of years of experience is required, but the listed technical skills are required. Employer will accept any amount of experience with those skills.

Requirements

• Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience designing and implementing REST API web services using Spring Boot and Java.
• Experience performing CRUD operations on NoSQL/SQL databases, including Cassandra, SQL Server, and Cosmos DB, using Spring JPA and Hibernate.
• Experience deploying cloud applications using CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Experience performing application unit testing using Mockito and Wire Mock.
• Experience coding in Java, an object-oriented programming language.
• Experience using Git for version control and adding code to GitHub.
• Experience automating workflows using Python.
• Experience writing batch jobs using Spring Batch, Spring Boot, Azure Databricks, Java 8, and Scala.
• Experience performing code reviews using Java.
• Experience troubleshooting production issues and performing root cause analysis using Splunk, Grafana, and Azure Application Insights.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance to groups of two to three engineers, including offshore associates, on assigned engineering projects by providing documents, directions, examples, and timelines.
• Support the business by responding to user questions and issues; researching solutions; determining implementation designs; explaining implications of system changes; identifying short- and long-term solutions; and directing users to appropriate contacts for issues outside the role's domain.
• Manage small- to large-sized complex projects by reviewing requirements, translating them into technical solutions, researching alternatives, selecting solutions based on return on investment and business value, gathering requested information, writing and developing code, conducting unit tests, communicating status and issues, collaborating with project and cross-functional teams, identifying opportunities, interpreting information, ensuring solutions are sustainable, troubleshooting issues and bug fixes, and ensuring timely delivery and handoffs.
• Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information, conducting root cause analysis, engaging support teams, developing solutions, driving and carrying out action plans, interpreting results, and completing online documentation.
• Participate in the discovery phase of small- to medium-sized projects and develop high-level designs in partnership with product management, project management, business, and user experience teams.
