About The Position

As a Software Engineer III, you’ll spend your days translating requirements into solutions, writing code, collaborating with cross-functional teams and providing us with the insights necessary to think beyond the status quo. This position is responsible to work as a frontend software engineer focusing on iOS and Android mobile applications using react native and associated tech stack. The Express Returns application is a business-critical system used across all Sam’s Club locations to process merchandise returns at the Member Services desk, directly impacting member satisfaction, associate efficiency, and overall club operations. This backfill for a frontend engineer is critical to ensure continued delivery and operational stability, with flexibility to level the role up to Senior if a strong candidate is identified. The need is further amplified by the growing scope of the Express Returns platform, which is expanding beyond traditional in-club workflows to support new omnichannel capabilities, including returns initiated online and completed seamlessly at the club. These initiatives introduce additional frontend complexity, requiring robust state management, real-time integrations with multiple backend systems, and highly performant, intuitive user interfaces that can operate reliably under heavy daily usage. The frontend team is responsible not only for building and enhancing these experiences but also for maintaining system reliability through ongoing production support, bug fixes, performance optimizations, accessibility compliance, and coordination with cross-functional teams for rollout and incident management. Bringing in a frontend engineer at this stage will strengthen execution capacity, enable parallel workstreams across multiple initiatives, and support a balanced team structure that combines internal growth with targeted external hiring. In the long term, this role is essential not just as a replacement, but as a strategic investment to ensure the scalability, reliability, and continued evolution of the Express Returns platform as we enhance the member experience and expand return options across all Sam’s Club channels. The Sam's Tech Member Desk engineering team is responsible for building and managing applications and services running at the member services desk across all of US Sam's clubs. This includes apps to handle membership signups/renewals/upgrades, process returns and purchase items at the member services desk.
