Software Engineer III - Flight Software
About The Position
The Software Engineer III designs, develops, and tests software applications for space systems and technologies. The role requires expertise in one or more programming languages, an advanced understanding of software development principles, and the ability to design and architect complex software systems. The engineer writes clean, maintainable code, collaborates with team members to understand project requirements, and contributes to effective software solutions. Responsibilities also include managing code changes with version control, participating in code reviews, troubleshooting software issues, and documenting software configurations, processes, and procedures. The engineer stays current with developments in software and space technologies and mentors other engineers, providing technical leadership and support. The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance, and U.S. citizenship is required for the active clearance needed for employment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree, or a master's degree plus 3 years of experience.
- Typically, 5 or more years of related experience.
- Expertise in one or more programming languages and an advanced understanding of software development principles.
- Ability to design and architect complex software systems.
- Experience with software development methodologies such as Agile and Scrum/Kanban.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to mentor and guide other engineers.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for the active clearance needed for employment.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with kernel-level programming.
- Proficiency in Python, C++, Java, and their ecosystems.
- Familiarity with Bash, PowerShell, and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
- Experience with Agile or Scrum/Kanban methodologies and tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Jenkins.
- Strong analytical skills, performance profiling, and debugging complex systems.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills; efficiency with collaborative tools such as GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket and development ceremonies such as daily standups, backlog grooming, work planning, task estimation, and retrospectives.
- Familiarity with Docker.
- Understanding of network protocols, security principles, and secure coding practices.
- Ability to write and maintain technical documentation.

- Experience utilizing and setting up static analysis tools.
