About The Position

Assurity is seeking a collaborative Software Engineer III to own the design and delivery of an assigned application, platform, or system, including mid-to-large AI and automation solutions integrated with core systems. The role is accountable for keeping systems maintainable, secure, reliable in production, and fit for current delivery and the near-term roadmap. The engineer leads small-to-mid initiatives end to end, directs AI agents on substantial development work, leads team verification of AI-generated changes, and coaches teammates. Approved AI tools are used routinely where appropriate, with the engineer responsible for the quality, security, and correctness of all delivered work. The role combines system design and technical direction with hands-on development, integration, testing, release, operations, and collaboration with business users and technical partners. The engineer develops and documents designs, defines service contracts and data ownership with the Solutions Architect, builds and integrates enterprise software, maintains quality and controls, promotes changes through production, and supports incident resolution and on-call operations. The position also includes coaching colleagues in AI fluency and maintaining skills through training and study. The position is remote with occasional on-site attendance. Team collaboration hours and travel arrangements are communicated for the specific opening. The role participates in a rotating on-call schedule after training, including nights and weekends, and may involve occasional scheduled evening or weekend production work. Work may exceed 40 hours per week. Applicants in CA, CO, DC, HI, IL, MA, MD, MN, NJ, NY, VT, and WA are not currently being considered.

Requirements

  • Typically 4 or more years of professional software development experience, including ownership of an initiative end to end.
  • A sustained portfolio of work shipped iteratively with AI agents, including reusable workflows and verification practices used by others, and sound judgment in verifying agent output; the interview includes a live build exercise.
  • Experience designing application components, integrations, and system architecture, including design patterns, performance, reliability, and integration with core business systems and event-driven services.
  • Experience leading small-to-mid initiatives from intake through rollout, including writing stories and acceptance criteria and confirming completed work directly with business users.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring other engineers.
  • Strong experience with relational and document or graph data systems, object-oriented programming, web application development, REST APIs, and production agent or LLM systems.
  • Experience building interfaces with modern HTML/CSS and building functional solutions using more than one of Vue, Angular, JavaScript, C#, TypeScript, Python, .NET MVC, Entity Framework, or REST.
  • Ability to design and implement unit and integration tests and lead troubleshooting of complex issues using modern IDEs; Visual Studio is preferred.
  • Experience with modern source control and CI/CD release pipelines; Azure DevOps and Git are preferred.
  • Experience with Linux and container operations, Agile processes, and modern data formats; JSON and XML are preferred.
  • Strong problem diagnosis, troubleshooting, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Professional written and verbal communication with technical and business partners, organizational skills to manage multiple tasks within timelines and budgets, and business acumen.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced remote team environment and rapidly learn and master diverse technologies and techniques.
  • Talent required in values, work intensity, achiever, positivity, resourcefulness, command, relationship-extension, and exactness.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to participate in the rotating on-call schedule after training, including nights and weekends, remain reachable, and respond to production alerts within defined response times and escalation paths.

Nice To Haves

  • Claude Code or similar agentic tools.
  • Python/FastAPI, C#, TypeScript, Next.js, and React.
  • n8n and MCP.
  • Azure DevOps or Jira, GitHub Actions, Podman or Docker, and Azure.
  • PostgreSQL and SQL Server; Kafka or Redpanda event streaming; Neo4j; Grafana and Prometheus; LDAP/Active Directory.
  • Application monitoring, performance tuning, or security design practices.
  • Insurance or financial services systems and enterprise integration experience.
  • Relevant technical, analysis, cloud, insurance, or leadership certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as design lead for an assigned application, platform, or system, deciding its components, design patterns, performance, reliability, and implementation approach.
  • Plan technical direction for current delivery and the near-term roadmap; define service contracts and data ownership with the Solutions Architect and record decisions.
  • Design system components and integrations, document design decisions and implementation guidance, and participate in solution design, reviews, and troubleshooting.
  • Run small-to-mid initiatives or mid-to-large AI or automation solutions from intake through specification, design, build, UAT, and rollout, including analysis without waiting for an analyst.
  • Write stories and acceptance criteria and confirm requirements and completed work directly with business users.
  • Direct AI agents to build and harden features, fixes, and solutions in the codebase through production; write code by hand when the task, platform, or quality calls for it.
  • Integrate data from back-end services and databases and maintain, expand, and scale enterprise-level software.
  • Lead verification of AI-generated changes by establishing team verification strategies and review practices, identifying recurring failure modes, and reviewing code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
  • Write unit and integration tests and evaluations; verify agent-produced changes with testing, debugging, and risk-appropriate review before release.
  • Implement human review, audit, access, and egress controls and set approval boundaries for agents within assigned services.
  • Maintain software documentation, repository instructions, reusable prompts, and validation methods for teammates and agents.
  • Promote changes through dev, test, stage, and production CI/CD pipelines and follow changes through production and real use.
  • Design monitoring, drift signals, guardrails, and alerting; take on-call shifts; troubleshoot and resolve production issues; lead incident resolution and follow-up; and respond to user questions and requests.
  • Assist at least two teammates, including Software Engineer I and II staff, in AI fluency, provide evidence in their portfolios, and review their highest-risk changes.
  • Design reusable agent workflows for larger work, select orchestration when useful, and teach others effective delegation.
  • Share system design context and patterns and turn proven agent-directed delivery patterns into shared team practices.
  • Partner with engineers, business systems analysts, product owners, project managers, and operations; estimate and log time daily; provide status updates to management and end users; and demonstrate project functionality.
  • Maintain skills through ongoing training and study, including AI fluency courses, and evaluate emerging trends and AI capabilities for their fit with the system roadmap.
  • While on call, remain reachable and respond promptly to production alerts; take immediate containment actions when needed and record incident notes.
  • Perform occasional scheduled evening or weekend work for production deployments, cutovers, data migrations, and go-lives.
