About The Position

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. In this role, you will be an iOS software engineer for the Search team in New York, working within the Photos domain and Google Photos to build user experiences for over a billion monthly active users. Google Photos is a photo sharing and storage service developed by Google. Photos is one of the most sought after products at Google and is looking for both client-side (web and mobile), with server-side (search, storage, serving) and machine intelligence (learning, computer vision) Software Engineers. We are dedicated to making Google experiences centered around the user.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in the Swift or SwiftUI programming languages.
  • 2 years of experience with iOS application development.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 2 years of experience with the Objective-C programming language.
  • Experience building large-scale consumer applications and optimizing iOS application performance.
  • Experience migrating legacy codebases to modern languages or frameworks (e.g., Swift, SwiftUI).
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with stakeholders across all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Build the next evolution of the search user experience in Google Photos.
  • Continue the team's efforts to modernize a legacy codebase into well-factored Swift design.
  • Build prototypes to validate the impact of new ideas.
  • Enable feature launches by working with engineers, product managers, user experience (UX) designers, data analysts, and quality assurance (QA).
  • Leverage artificial intelligence (AI) tooling to improve personal velocity while ensuring quality output.
