About The Position

This Software Engineer III position is part of a team that works closely with Walmart's US stores and eCommerce business to empower team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation, serving customers across various product categories through online and in-store channels. The role focuses on customers, stores, employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization. Key responsibilities include participating in discovery and design for small-to-medium features, translating business and technical requirements into scalable Android solutions, and designing, developing, testing, and maintaining Android applications using Kotlin/Java and modern Android frameworks. The engineer will also be involved in troubleshooting production issues, supporting CI/CD processes, implementing telemetry, and leveraging AI-powered development tools to enhance efficiency and code quality. The role requires providing task-level guidance to 1-2 engineers. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area, or equivalent experience.
  • 2–4 years of Android development experience or 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java.
  • Experience with Android SDK, Jetpack libraries, and REST API integration.
  • Understanding of Agile development methodology.
  • Experience with unit testing and debugging tools.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Jetpack Compose.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of mobile performance optimization and monitoring.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).
  • Understanding of secure coding practices and data privacy standards.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area.
  • Knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in discovery and design for small-to-medium features by partnering with Product, UX, and Engineering teams.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into scalable Android solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Android applications using Kotlin/Java and modern Android frameworks.
  • Follow established architecture patterns (MVVM/Clean Architecture) and coding standards.
  • Write unit tests and support integration and regression testing.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Support CI/CD processes and release activities.
  • Implement telemetry, logging, and performance monitoring enhancements.
  • Leverage AI-powered development tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Copilot) to improve engineering efficiency and code quality.
  • Communicate status, risks, and blockers clearly to stakeholders.
  • Provide task-level guidance to 1–2 engineers, including offshore associates, as needed.
