Software Engineer II - Offboard Python Application

Latitude AI•Palo Alto, CA
•$150,320 - $225,480

About The Position

Latitude AI is developing a fully in-house hands-free ADAS platform as part of Ford’s autonomy roadmap. The Virtual Test Ecosystem (VTE) team builds and operates simulation and resimulation workflows, enabling large-scale safety and performance testing before in-vehicle testing. Its cloud-agnostic processing framework uses open-source software and cloud-provider services and can also run on-premises. The Software Engineer II will improve the simulation and resimulation framework and its applications, primarily using Python and AWS and/or GCP services. The role includes finding and resolving scalability and performance bottlenecks, building benchmarks and dashboards, and making the framework intuitive, well-documented, and self-service for teams across autonomy, systems, and testing. The engineer will also contribute to efficient storage and search of vehicle logs, automated indexing of relevant actors and interactions, dataset coverage analysis, and tools that make it easier for developers to implement performance metrics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field and 4+ years of relevant experience; alternatively, a Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD.
  • Expertise writing efficient, well-documented, and well-tested Python code.
  • At least 2 years of experience writing scalable applications that execute in a cloud or HPC environment.
  • At least 2 years of experience writing software that interacts with AWS and/or GCP services.
  • Familiarity with NumPy and scientific programming.
  • Willingness and desire to learn how onboard and offboard components interact and propose solutions that improve how developers and testers work with both systems.

Nice To Haves

  • C++ development experience.
  • Experience with Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

  • Improve the simulation and resimulation cloud framework and the applications that run on it.
  • Write Python code and integrate open-source packages and AWS and/or GCP services.
  • Identify scalability and performance bottlenecks, develop benchmarks and dashboards, and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Work with users across autonomy, systems, testing, and other teams to understand usage patterns and improve the framework.
  • Make the framework well-documented and self-service so other teams can extend it, including adding autonomy stack components to resimulation.
  • Contribute to efficient vehicle-log storage and search, automated indexing of interesting actors and scene interactions, and dataset coverage analysis.
  • Improve the framework to make it easy for developers to add metrics and implement metrics as needs arise.
