About The Position

As a Software Engineer II in JPMorganChase’s Cloud Payment Common Core Services Group, you will design and build distributed, cloud-native infrastructure supporting critical payment processing systems. You will contribute to high-availability payment services and work with engineers across a collaborative, fast-paced team that values innovation, ownership, and continuous learning. The group develops foundational services for secure, scalable payment experiences across the firm and is integrating AI to improve payment experiences. The role involves designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting payment services using AWS, Java, and Kotlin, with containerized deployments through Docker and Kubernetes (EKS). You will work with event-driven systems, MongoDB, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD tooling; troubleshoot moderately complex issues across distributed systems; and use approved AI-assisted development tools while critically validating their outputs. You will also collaborate with data science and AI engineering teams to integrate machine-learning capabilities into payment services.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and at least 2 years of applied experience.
  • Practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment using one or more modern programming languages, including Java or Kotlin, and database query languages; working knowledge of MongoDB.
  • Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools at work and ability to critically evaluate and validate AI-generated outputs.
  • Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, resiliency, and security expectations.
  • Experience across the full Software Development Life Cycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and operational support.
  • Exposure to agile methodologies and practices such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (EKS) on AWS.
  • Familiarity with Terraform and event-driven messaging systems such as Kafka.

Nice To Haves

  • Kotlin backend service development experience and experience with CI/CD pipeline tooling, particularly Jenkins.
  • Hands-on experience integrating AI or machine-learning APIs, frameworks, or models, such as large language models or predictive analytics, into production applications.
  • Familiarity with AWS AI and machine-learning platforms or tools, such as SageMaker, for model deployment and monitoring.
  • Experience in payments, financial services, or another high-availability, high-throughput domain.
  • Understanding of cloud security best practices and payment compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and troubleshoot cloud-native payment services built on AWS, Java, and Kotlin.
  • Write secure, high-quality code and deploy containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes (EKS).
  • Use enterprise-authorized AI coding tools for code generation, refactoring, unit tests, and documentation, validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding practices.
  • Design and troubleshoot services in consideration of upstream and downstream systems, including Kafka-based event-driven architectures and MongoDB data storage.
  • Apply SDLC tools and automation capabilities, including Jenkins and Terraform, to improve delivery and automation outcomes.
  • Break down and resolve moderately complex technical problems across distributed payment systems.
  • Analyze large, diverse data sets to identify problems and support decisions for secure and stable application development.
  • Collaborate with data science and AI engineering teams to integrate AI and machine-learning models for automation, anomaly detection, and predictive capabilities.
  • Learn and apply processes and methodologies for developing secure, stable systems in an agile, cross-functional environment.
  • Contribute across the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and operational support.

Benefits

  • Competitive total rewards package, with base salary determined by role, experience, skill set, and location.
  • Eligible roles may receive commission-based pay and/or discretionary incentive compensation in cash and/or forfeitable equity.
  • Comprehensive health care coverage.
  • On-site health and wellness centers.
  • Retirement savings plan.
  • Backup childcare.
  • Tuition reimbursement.
  • Mental health support.
