About The Position

Tilt is looking for a Software Engineer II to join their team. The role involves owning well-scoped features from design to production, improving system reliability, and collaborating with fellow engineers, product, and design teams. This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager. The company emphasizes success and outlines expected virtues, behaviors, and competencies for the role.

Requirements

  • Shipped full-stack features to production using Python/Django on the backend and React on the frontend.
  • Ability to break larger problems into small, shippable pieces and provide reliable estimates.
  • Experience writing automated tests as a normal part of the workflow and comfort with shipping through a CI/CD pipeline.
  • Ability to manage own work, time-box investigations, and ask for help when stuck.
  • Comfort starting work when requirements have open questions and asking clarifying questions.
  • Ability to pick up new tools, internal systems, and unfamiliar codebases quickly.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities or requirements.
  • Cares about Tilt’s mission and the impact on employees and employers.
  • Experience working in startups and/or B2B SaaS environments.
  • Authorized to work in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Own well-scoped features and projects from technical design through production release, including breaking down work into tickets, estimating effort, and delivering on commitments.
  • Reduce bugs and technical debt in components, ensuring code is easier to change.
  • Write automated unit and integration tests, maintain CI pipeline health, and use logs, metrics, and alerts to verify production changes.
  • Write readable, well-documented code and participate in code reviews.
  • Collaborate with peers to solve problems, including pairing on bugs and discussing design options.
  • Participate in team ceremonies like stand-ups, backlog refinement, and retrospectives, providing clear status, estimates, and suggestions for improvement.
  • Raise risks, bugs, and blockers promptly with sufficient context for decision-making.
  • Escalate architectural or cross-team questions to senior engineers and the Engineering Manager.
  • Take ownership of product components and become a subject matter expert.
  • Participate in the team's on-call rotation for triaging and resolving production issues.
