About The Position

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Product & Technology is a global organization focused on building and advancing the technological backbone for Disney’s media business worldwide. The team aims to create world-class products, enhance storytelling, and drive velocity, innovation, and scalability. This role is within the Commerce, Data & Identity segment, which manages core product functions for digital commerce, identity, growth, messaging, and privacy, and is responsible for data engineering, science, and products for Disney Entertainment & ESPN. Engineering Services, another part of the organization, designs, builds, and sustains technology for content production and distribution platforms, contributing to Quality Assurance, Data Analytics, Software Development, Broadcast Infrastructure, and Networking & Security. The Media and Session Data Product (MSDP) team within the Data organization is seeking a Software Engineer II. This position involves building data pipelines and datasets that are critical for enabling engineering and analytical teams to leverage media session data for key business decisions and to scale the largest streaming service. A core focus is on expanding, scaling, and standardizing foundational principles through consistent observability, lineage, data quality, logging, and alerting across all engineering teams in the Data organization to achieve a single pane of glass.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
  • Designing, building, and maintaining full stack codes utilizing various technical languages e.g. Scala, Java, C++, C, C#, Python, SQL
  • Troubleshooting code for bugs using various tools available in the IDE and/or logging
  • Write production-grade, maintainable code primarily for data pipelines leveraging Airflow, Databricks Asset Bundles, or Snowflake in Scala.
  • Implement complex data transformations using Spark Structured streaming, Spark SQL and core Spark APIs.
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of data products from ingestion, transformation, orchestration, to consumption by analytics, ML, and reporting teams.
  • Designing and implementing relational and non-relational database schemas e.g. MySql, Mongodb, Dynamodb
  • Using basic and advanced features of code management tools e.g. GitHub
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or relevant technical field

  • Serves as escalation point for technical problems and maintenance
  • Actively contributes to architectural direction, code reviews, design documents, and planning for assigned work
