This role involves the frequent application of technical standards, principles, and theories to develop solutions for moderately complex technical problems. The engineer will conduct research in the design, development, testing, and utilization of electronic data processing software. This includes designing, developing, documenting, testing, and debugging applications and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. The position requires multidisciplinary research and collaboration with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in planning, designing, developing, and utilizing electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. The engineer will determine computer user needs, analyze system capabilities to resolve problems related to program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. They will also prepare operating instructions, design and develop compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems, ensuring software standards are met. Additionally, the role involves analyzing user needs and software requirements to determine design feasibility within time and cost constraints, conferring with systems analysts, engineers, programmers, and others to design systems and obtain information on project limitations, capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces. The engineer will design, develop, and modify software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design, and coordinate software system installations and monitor equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met.
