About The Position

We are building a cloud-native, AI-forward technology organization. The Software Engineer II supports the development of software that serves Maritz technology, working closely with and under the guidance of fellow engineers on the team. In this role, you will help build and maintain application features and services, with growing exposure to AI-assisted engineering practices. The ideal candidate brings foundational knowledge in systems or software engineering and curiosity toward emerging technologies, including AI-driven tooling. Experience with IaC tooling, including the ability to understand write, and structure Terraform is highly preferred.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience within a software engineering related position.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Understanding of responsible AI use principles in an enterprise engineering context.
  • Growing ability to evaluate AI-generated code and configurations for correctness, security, and performance, with support from senior engineers.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude) to generate, review, and improve code.
  • Growing ability to interpret and apply security requirements across infrastructure and software systems.
  • Basic exposure to at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or OCI).
  • Developing triage skills, with the ability to assist in root cause analysis under guidance.
  • Basic familiarity with relational and/or NoSQL databases and core concepts such as ACID transactions, data retrieval, search, and persistence paradigms.
  • Exposure to building web applications or web-services, preferably REST
  • Foundational knowledge of web application frameworks, object-oriented languages, functional programming techniques, design patterns, and secure coding practices, gained through coursework, internships, or professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with IaC tooling, including the ability to understand write, and structure Terraform is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine to moderately complex development work across a variety of environments, with support from senior engineers on more complex or nonroutine tasks.
  • Uses AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude) to accelerate development and improve code quality and throughput.
  • Participates in code reviews of peers' work — including AI-generated code — to help ensure quality, security, and adherence to standards.
  • Actively participates in and helps facilitate Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives).
  • Seeks guidance from senior engineers on effective, responsible adoption of AI-assisted development tools.
  • Supports efforts to apply AI and automation to improve deployment frequency and increase system reliability.
  • Assists with resolving service interruptions and contributes to root cause analysis during post-mortems under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Helps identify trends, anomalies, and failure patterns; recommends solutions with input from senior team members.
  • Actively participates in a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and operational excellence within the team.
  • Supports cross-functional teams during major incidents, helping ensure clear communication and timely updates throughout the lifecycle of an event.
