About The Position

Slate is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to build and ship features for its digital platform. The platform connects customers to Slate throughout their experience, from discovering and customizing a vehicle to managing ownership. The engineer will design and deliver features in collaboration with product, UX, and senior engineers, with work reaching customers quickly. This role calls for independent problem-solving and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-moving environment. The position will help shape customers’ experience of Slate’s automotive brand.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience.
• Experience building and shipping features in customer-facing software systems.
• Working knowledge of web services, APIs, and modern software development practices, including testing and code review.
• Ability to solve a variety of problems and work independently on day-to-day tasks.
• Experience consuming or integrating third-party APIs.
• Must be authorized to work permanently in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with ecommerce or marketplace systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deliver features and components independently, with little day-to-day direction.
• Write and test code, and participate in code and design reviews.
• Own the quality of shipped work, including unit and functional tests.
• Solve a variety of problems creatively by considering relevant factors and choosing sound methods.
• Work with UX and product teammates to understand customer needs and build appropriate solutions.
• Apply a full working understanding of the assigned area and make good decisions within it.
• Take general direction on new assignments and seek input when trade-offs become more significant.
• Share knowledge with teammates and help others get up to speed.
