About The Position

As a Software Engineer II within the Command & Control Center (CCC), you will help ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of Walmart’s critical omnichannel eCommerce platforms. You will proactively monitor production environments, detect and triage incidents, analyze application and infrastructure health, execute mitigation and recovery procedures, and collaborate with engineering teams to rapidly restore customer-facing services. You will also engineer monitoring, alerting, automation, API integrations, and operational tooling using modern observability, cloud, container, and software-development technologies. The role provides hands-on experience supporting large-scale distributed systems while continuously improving detection, incident response, automation, and operational resilience. The Command & Control Center (CCC) is a 24x7 Site Reliability Operations team ensuring the availability, reliability, and performance of Walmart’s critical omnichannel eCommerce platforms. The team proactively monitors production environments, detects, triage and mitigate incidents, assesses business impact, and coordinates rapid service recovery. CCC supports cloud-native and distributed environments across Linux/Unix, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, micro services, networking, and modern observability technologies. Beyond incident response, the team enhances monitoring, alerting, API integrations, operational tooling, automation, and self-healing capabilities while partnering with SRE, DevOps, and engineering teams to improve operational readiness, reduce recovery time, and strengthen platform resilience.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting large-scale, highly available production systems and eCommerce or distributed platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across Linux/Unix, networking, microservices, cloud platforms, Kubernetes, and application dependencies.
  • Experience with observability, monitoring, logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and production incident management.
  • Proficiency in Java, JavaScript, Python, Shell, SQL, REST APIs, and automation technologies.
  • Experience building operational tooling, integrations, automation, and self-healing solutions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills with a focus on rapid recovery, root-cause analysis, production readiness, documentation, and continuous reliability improvement.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area.
  • 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Support Walmart’s large-scale omnichannel eCommerce platforms, ensuring availability, reliability, and performance.
  • Proactively monitor systems, analyze alerts, logs, metrics, and traces, and rapidly triage and mitigate production incidents.
  • Troubleshoot Linux/Unix, networking, microservices, cloud platforms, Kubernetes, and complex application dependencies.
  • Build and enhance observability, dashboards, alerts, APIs, and incident-management integrations using modern monitoring technologies.
  • Develop operational tools, automation, and self-healing solutions using Java, JavaScript, Python, Shell, SQL, and REST APIs.
  • Collaborate with SRE and engineering teams on service restoration, root-cause analysis, production readiness, onboarding, documentation, and continuous reliability improvements.
